Spring has sprung...how to style your home!

As they say, Spring has officially sprung! The warmer weather is here and now is a great time to start your spring clean and freshen up your home.

A change of season is a great time to update your décor or just change things around. Here are some ways to freshen up your home.

1. Declutter
Spring is the perfect time of year to declutter. Even if you don’t need to do a major spring clean, decluttering will make your home feel lighter and brighter. Simplify your styling in places like bedside tables, entry tables and living areas. Keeping things simple gives a clutter free feel, which also means less dusting and cleaning.
Have a look at the accessories and objects you have on display – take away one or two things at a time, and go back and restyle until you’re happy.

A simple branch or bunch of flowers is perfect spring décor, or you can keep it simple with a potted plant. If you decide to declutter, remember less is more!

2. Art
Large artwork is in, and it is a great way to inject colour into you spring décor. The gallery wall trend is fading and large graphic or photographic artwork is coming into focus. Replacing your smaller artworks with one large piece gives a simplified, clutter free feel to a room. A current trend is large photographic artworks with a simple colour palette.

3. Layers
As the weather warms up it’s time to take a layer or two off the bed. Remove your heavy quilts and duvets, and add a lighter layer like a bedcover or thin blanket. Think about texture and tones, and don’t be afraid to pair different fabrics (like cotton, linen and knits) together. Sheets with a bedcover and a light throw look great in different tones of the same colour, or you can add a bright blanket for a pop of colour to replace a heavy duvet.

4. Florals
It might be a little cliché, but florals and spring go hand in hand. There are so many ways to add florals to your décor – whether it be the real thing (nothing beats a bunch of flowers) or in floral print. You could do something bold like having a floral wallpapered feature wall, or you can simply add a floral cushion to your couch.

For a more modern take, you can add a large print cushion, which looks fantastic on an upholstered chair or bedhead. You will be surprised how well floral matches other prints like stripes and spots, so don’t be afraid to mix it up.

5. Organisation
Getting organised is the key to a good spring clean. From wardrobes to the pantry, it’s all about getting rid of what you don’t need and organising what you do. As the weather warms up, it is a great idea to organise your wardrobe and start putting your winter clothes away and unpacking your summer clothes. Investing in shelving and drawers is always money well spent – as they create great storage option around the house.
