The Government is cancelling your property title!
27-Aug-2021
In a new reforms to digitalise and simplify the conveyancing of property, the NSW government is cancelling all Land Titles. In October, only digital certificates will be issued and require to be handled by a licensed conveyancer or solicitor.
Changes to the Land Title system
As of 11th October, the transition from the paper-based processes will take place. A Certificate of Title will no longer be a valid legal document and will not be needed for any land transaction.
The electronic lodgements will now be referred to as '100% eConveyancing'. The process will be more secure, efficient, and no longer rely on paper Certificates of Title. This change is the final step for conveyancing in NSW becoming completely digital. Through implementing this it will reduce the risk of settlement delays and potential errors or fraud occurring from conveyancers.
What about your legal ownership details?
Property owners and interested buyers will not need to concern themselves as their legal ownership details are already in the Torrens Title Register. These details are recorded on the Register and are guaranteed by the State to continue to be the single source of truth for land ownership.
